Busy Times for the New Kodiak Public Library

Summer leads into fall, and things are very busy on the new library project! Here’s an overview of items that are progressing: Have you seen our foundation?!? Our great construction crew is busily working away on the site. The foundation walls are in and scaffolding was spotted on the site last week. Public Art Acquisition: The first round (of an envisionedĀ four rounds) of public art acquisition has been going on. Nearly 25 artists submitted proposals, and announcement of the first round of acquisitions is anticipated this week. Stay tuned! Capital Campaign: The campaign cabinet has fired up their efforts again with the passing of summer. Amazingly, we are already at $571,204 of community contributions, and going strong! 100% Design Documents: The architects have completed 100% design documents for the library. These go for review by the Building Committee in two weeks. Once they’ve been forwarded to the City Council, we can expect the final construction contract to be let. Amazing progress all the way around! Thanks to all the team members for keeping it a positive, engaging, imaginative community project!

$6.9 Million from the State Comes Through!

Today Governor Parnell signed the state capital budget, which included $6.9 million for the new Kodiak Public Library! This is more than half the total funding needed for the $13.6 million project. When added to the money that has already been applied toward the project from the City of Kodiak and the Kodiak Public Library Association, we are already three quarters of the way toward our funding goal! What a wonderful day for the library project. Congratulations to everyone whose efforts contributed to getting us to this place!
